Memorials for Isaac Kemp and Mary Mowgee

Isaac Kemp was born at Ticehurst, Sussex on 16 May 1796 and died near Cobbora NSW on 11 April 1857. Before 1826 he had formed a de facto relationship with a native woman named Mary of the Mowgee clan that lived in the area now occupied by the town of Mudgee NSW (which was named for her clan). They had a son named William Isaac Kemp but Mary must have died or separated from William at some time over the next few years. Her final resting place is unknown.

Isaac married Margaret Murphy at Bathurst NSW on 4 October 1836 but she died on 1 June 1837 and was buried in Kelso Anglican Cemetery.

Isaac Kemp married secondly Sarah Shervington at Bathurst on 4 September 1839. She had left him before July 1850.

Isaac died when he was run over by his bullock dray on the road near Cobbora NSW on 11 April 1857. He was buried in an unmarked grave near the road on the following day. The Curator of Intestate Estates published a notice about his estate in July 1857 - NOTICE TO CREDITORS. (1857, July 7). New South Wales Government Gazette (Sydney, NSW : 1832 - 1900), p. 1383. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article229173523.
